Enjoying pizza can prove a challenge for those on gluten-free, low-carb, or keto diets. But with this easy recipe for almond flour pizza crust, anyone can enjoy a slice of pizza with their favorite toppings.

Making an almond flour pizza crust isn’t as simple as just replacing all-purpose flour with almond flour. This recipe doesn’t require yeast and doesn’t need to rise like a classic pizza crust. Since almond flour does not contain any gluten, it isn’t doughy, and instead has a crisper, more cracker-like texture. Simply mix together the ingredients, roll the dough out into a circle, and bake.

Regardless of the pizza toppings, start by par-baking the crust. This allows the crust to begin to cook and firm up before adding any toppings like cheese or sauce that might impart extra moisture to the crust. The crust continues to cook after the toppings are added. For a sweet pizza, omit the spices and bake the crust the whole way until golden brown and then top and serve.

Recipe Variations

An almond flour pizza crust can be used in both savory or sweet pizza recipes:

  • Savory: When making a savory almond flour crust pizza, the crust is par-baked, topped, then finished in the oven. This version is based on the classic pizza Margherita with fresh mozzarella, slices of fresh tomato, and fresh basil, but feel free to use your favorite toppings.
  • Sweet: When making a sweet almond flour crust pizza, omit the dried basil, oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook the crust all the way through before topping and serving. Once the crust is baked it can be topped with a layer of mascarpone or cream cheese and slices of fresh fruit like figs. Drizzle with honey or chocolate sauce and serve for dessert.
